Blog Journal #8

The lesson plan I chose to assess is about teaching children how to count coins. This lesson takes basic math skills and relates them to the real world, creating an engaging and interesting activity for the students. This lesson is intended for lower grade school students between 1st and 2nd grade. This is also a way for learning to be active and include positive interactions, both steps in the DID. This lesson can use real or plastic coins for hands on experience and the students can be paired into small groups and work together to find the answers.

Lesson Plan

By using a powerpoint, a teacher could support learning at each level of Bloom's Taxonomy. First is remembering; recalling facts or basic concepts about the material. The powerpoint could layout and define or list the materials needed. Next is understand; explaining ideas or concepts. The powerpoint can prompt the teacher to take time to discuss the material with the students and have them ask questions or further explanations. Then is apply: use the newly learned information in new situations. The presentation can prompt an activity in which the students apply the newly acquired knowledge to something hands on. The next step is analyze; drawing connections among ideas of the newly learned knowledge. The powerpoint can list facts that help relate and compare the information to relevant real world things that the students already understand. Next is evaluate; justify a stand or decision about the newly learned information. The powerpoint can prompt the teacher to gather the class to go over all the answers to the activity they did. The final step is create; produce new/original work with the newly learned information. The powerpoint can display examples of the information used in their contexts or activities and then the teacher would have the students create their own problems for each other to solve.

I learned a lot form the webquest assignment. I had some previous experience creating websites before for various school projects but never a teacher website. I enjoyed learning more about wix.com and how to use all the cool features. There are so many unique things you can add to the website that I didn't know existed until this project. I also enjoyed thinking about a project for my pretend students to do. I could improve my work next time by using even more of the features that wix has to offer or even maybe trying a different website creator. I think this project was useful knowledge for my future career if I need to display a set of instructions to a large group of people. Instead of sending out something, they can reference the website at their own convenience.

  1. Hi Brittany! You wrote a great blog post. I think it was really cool to explore how PowerPoint can be used to teach at all levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. I really like how you did not limit the PowerPoint's ability and recognized that it can prompt different things for lessons such as discussions or activities!

  2. Hi Brittany!
I really enjoyed your post. I also just love the aesthetic of your site. I really like how you used such a simple elementary school lesson plan. Sometimes I think the simplicity can make things more complicated so I enjoyed seeing how you made it relate! Powerpoint is great for the blooms taxonomy I think! I enjoyed making the web-quest as well!
