Blog Journal #11

I think data collection and reporting can be great tools for teachers. They can be used by the students in a math or research based psych/science class in order to gather data and see how it works all laid out on Excel. This method would work best for upperclassmen in high school and college courses. It can also be used by the teachers themselves in order to gather data necessary for a school or classroom event. For example, if the teacher of an elementary level class needed to know what parents were bringing what snacks on which days, they could send out a survey for all the parents to fill out and then the teacher could see all the data laid out on an excel sheet for the best classroom organization.

The flipped classroom is an interesting approach to learning. This method allows student to learn the materials at their own pace outside of the classroom and practice their newly learned skills in the classroom with their teacher and classmates. I think this method would work well for older students (middle school and beyond), but I do think there would still need to be some sort of review and clarification at the beginning of each in person class session. I like the fact that students can go at their own pace and pause/rewind whenever they need in their own time. This method allows the class time to become more productive and efficient for both the teachers and the students.

A technology skill that I want to learn next is more skills on excel spreadsheets. There is so much you can do with excel and I would be interested in learning more skills that can help me be more organized and proficient in the future. I think the best way to really learn about technology is to just play around with it and use it frequently. There are also so many videos and tutorials out there on the internet that can help you learn new skills about anything.

After reading the class blog site, I found it interesting to learn how different school websites can be and how much information is shared on some and how little information is shared on others. Some websites were super out of date and others were very on top of it. It was also interesting to read all the different ways we would use technology in future classrooms. There are so many great tools out there that can really help support the lessons taught in the classroom and help keep your classes organized online.

I commented on Mallory and Olivia's blogs this week.

  1. Hi Brittany, I loved how you mentioned how the students can use surveys and Excel themselves for projects. I was never taught Excel in high school but think it would be a super useful tool. Great post!
