Blog Journal #10

Technology is an important tool in the education system today. Technology can greatly support lessons taught and learned in the classroom. I think it's important for teachers to remember that technology is tool to help them guide their lessons, not a supplement to their lecturing or teaching. It can be easy to rely on technology to do the work for you, so it's important to remember to put in effort for the best outcome for your students. I found a site (Tech Trends) that helps keep educators up to date on the best uses of technology for student benefit and in what contexts to use the technology trends.

I learned a lot from the powerpoint assignments. I had no idea how to crete a quiz on powerpoint so it was interesting to learn the new skills like how to implement next page buttons and return buttons without traditional mouse click slide changes. I was not a huge fan of the powerpoint lesson simply because I think it's awkward to record and hear my own voice so it was a little uncomfortable. It is, however, a good skill to have, especially for future teachers.

After reading the class blog post, I think it's really interesting how many of us have grown up with so many different types of technology starting at such a young age. We grew up in a weird time where technology went from 0 to 100 in such only a few years. That being said, I think it'a also interesting that so many of us didn't really grasp skills in MS Word until college. It was cool to read about all the different types of technology and web tools that each of us grew up with in our schools. It's hard to picture other schools other than your own experience but it was enlightening to read so many different experiences.
