Blog Journal #7

I think I would like to maintain a course website as a teacher. I think it would be really useful in communicating with students, parents, or both. For younger elementary teachers, teacher websites can really helpful for parents to keep up with curriculum and important events going on. For teachers of upper level classes, student websites can be important to help students keep up with their assignments and keep all their things for that class in one place. I think it's also really useful and helpful for the teacher to be able to have everything in one place as well. It can be a great way to communicate with either the students or parents, especially if the class they teach doesn't meet everyday. After doing this week's assignment, I have realized that it can take some time and effort to create and edit class websites, but I think it's worth the time and effort to be able to have the convenience and organization for the teacher and students/parents.

I can envision myself using a basic website builder like Wix to create organized and simple class sites for my class. Class sites can also be a good way to integrate technology into the class for the students. They can learn how to navigate websites in a safe environment. As mentioned in the podcast, teachers have a responsibility to continue improving and updating their instructional methods and I think keeping up with technology is a great way to incorporate that into your teaching.

A new skill that I learned by completing the last assignment, Web Evaluation, is how to create a color labeled table on word. I have made tables before on word and excel but I have never put colored detail into them before. I have enjoyed learning new skills throughout the semester so far using different aspects of educational technology. I have enjoyed the challenge. In order to improve next time, I could spend more time making it unique with more colors and fonts. What I learned in that assignment can help me create my own evaluation sheets and better instruct my future students on how to safely and appropriately research on the web.

  1. Alina,

Great blog post! I 100% agree that websites can be super useful in the classroom. You brought up a great point about how it can be extremely useful for parents as well as students. This can be beneficial for parents of younger students, or to help their older child stay on top of their studies.
